Why are roads painted in sunlight?
I remember me and my kids were driving through the Islamabad highway and it was being painted. And we had to suffer some traffic issues because of it. And my child asked curiously mom, why don't they paint the road at night? And why are they painting the road? Arent they wasting money. At that time, in traffic chaos, I couldn't give a reply. But afterward, I thought of it. And then I made some research.
Upon my research, I found out that the new technology road paint which is known as thermoplastic paint is best suitable when painted in sunlight. Thermoplastic paint is a high-quality paint made through special mineral fillers and resins. It is sprayed through a special machine and has to be painted in sunlight so that when sun heat strikes the paint, the paint gets reflective and shiny as well as strong and durable.
Thus, this is when I realized why it was not being painted with a brush and why through a special machine. It has to be evenly sprayed, dried, and then sprayed.
The next question that why is there even a need for painting the suburbs and the sidewalks before the traffic signals. The reason is safety. As a driver, you would know that on highways it is important for you to keep in your lane and switch lanes according to traffic laws. Thus, lanes are marked through the paint.
Also, the reflective paint at night allows the drivers to be on the road and not crash n the sidewalks or the empty places on either side of the road. A road paint that is shiny will help the driver know where a turn is coming. Thus, this is why road paints are known as safety paints!
I also learned that this time, The highway was painted by a renowned company named Total System Solutions. And I have to admit, they did a great job!
Let me know how did you like their work and my post!
